The issue of plagiarism does hunt down Indian cinema more often than not but I love that they give an original version to some stories. I agree that Partener is a shot-to-shot copy and so is Humraz of the perfect murder, Murder is a copy of unfaithful anf the list just goes on.. but some movied like TZP can be saved from the verbal thrashing simply because it addressed such a burning issue in our country where everyone wants a numero uno instead of a kid and use kids as a prestige symbol. Such issues are definitely viable and as many movies that can be made on such issues should be made time and again, even at the cost of bein hackneyed just so people are in constant touch with the brutal truths.

Serious films are still being made in India. They are made in Malayalam and to some extent in Tamil too. In fact it would be wrong to equate only Bollywood and its films with Indian cinema. There are many regional actors who can give any Hollywood star a run for their money. Moreover the emotions /culture of ours are different, which need different expressions when compared to a Hollywood movie. As Aamir Khan and Kamal Hassan have rightly pointed out again and again, we do not need Hollywood’s recognition. The recognition of the Indian audience is more important. Let us once for all come out of this ’Oscar’ fixation.

And ofcourse, institutionalised funding has just hit Bollywood and Movie merchandising is just starting off. And along with this, we are seeing movies slowly improve. So, i guess we gotta give the Indian film industry(not bollywood) some time before it can start making some quality cinema.
